Type Locality and Naming

The listed suite was identified by I. V. Pyzyanov and A. Kh. Qafarsky (Pyzyanov, 1965). This is the uppermost formation of Sauksay Gr.

Lakhsh (formerly Jirgatol) District — officially renamed in 2016 — is located in northeast Tajikistan, and includes the village of Mugh (formerly Muk) within its administrative jamoat Lakhshi Bolo (Wikipedia, 2025; RFE/RL via Asia-Plus, 2016; Wikipedia: Mugh; Wikipedia: Lakhshi Bolo).

Lithology and Thickness

It is formed by black and dark gray sandstones and clay shales with a thickness of 800 m. I. V. Pyzyanov and A. Kh. Kafarsky distinguished these suites throughout the development area of the Sauksay Gr.

According to I. V. Pyzyanov (1965), the upper barren sandstones and shales (Obiharinsk Fm) (обихарекская свита) are likely Serpukhovian.
